১৯৬৫ সালে জন্ম নেওয়া নাসরীন জাহান তরুণ বয়সেই লেখালেখিতে আসেন এবং খুব দ্রুত পাঠকের দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণ করেন। তাঁর প্রথমদিকের গল্প ও উপন্যাসগুলোতেই স্পষ্ট ছিল — এই লেখিকা অন্যদের মতো নন। তিনি ভদ্রতার মুখোশ পরে লেখেন না — তিনি সরাসরি, কখনো কখনো নির্মমভাবে, জীবনের যে চেহারাটা সবাই লুকিয়ে রাখতে চায় সেটা তুলে ধরেন।
ঊর্ধ্বশ্বাসে তাঁর অন্যতম আলোচিত উপন্যাস। এখানে তিনি দেখিয়েছেন কীভাবে একজন নারী শহুরে জীবনের চাপে হাঁসফাঁস করে — ক্যারিয়ার, সংসার, সম্পর্ক — সবকিছু সামলাতে গিয়ে নিজেকেই হারিয়ে ফেলে। অন্তরমহল-এ তিনি পরিবারের ভেতরকার রাজনীতি, ক্ষমতার খেলা আর নারীর নিঃশব্দ যন্ত্রণা তুলে ধরেছেন। নির্বাসন-এ দেখিয়েছেন কীভাবে একজন মানুষ নিজের ঘরেই নির্বাসিত হতে পারে।
