১৯৫০ সালে ঢাকায় জন্ম নেওয়া পূরবী ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে পড়াশোনা শেষ করে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে পাড়ি জমান। সেখানে তিনি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে অধ্যাপনা করেছেন, গবেষণা করেছেন — কিন্তু তাঁর হৃদয় সবসময় ফিরে এসেছে বাংলায়, বাংলা ভাষায়, বাংলাদেশের মানুষের কাছে।

Purabi Basu is a writer who lives in two worlds — one in Bangladesh, one in America — and both come alive in her writing. She is one of the most powerful voices in diaspora Bengali literature — someone who left her country but could never leave it behind.
Born in 1950 in Dhaka, Purabi completed her education at Dhaka University before moving to the United States. There she taught at universities and conducted research — but her heart always returned to Bangla, to the Bangla language, to the people of Bangladesh.
